Moldovan president starts consultations on organization of referendum on Moldova's accession to European Union

Chisinau, 25 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today met a group of journalists, civil society’s experts and opinion makers, who accepted the invitation to a discussion on the referendum on Moldova’s accession to the European Union, the presidential press service has reported.
The meeting was the first one from a string of consultations which will take place on the next period and will include representatives from local communities, private environment, civil society, opinion makers, journalists, people from diverse branches of the economy and social and cultural life, as well as political parties.
President Maia Sandu initiated the referendum on Moldova’s accession to the European Union, so that the citizens express their will on the country’s future. ‘‘Moldova is at a crucial stage, when the European Union countries voted for starting the negotiations on our country’s accession to EU. Now, it is the turn of our citizens to give their opinion that they want this – to go forward, to edify a really European country, where the peace, stability and welfare rule,’’ the head of state said.
