Chisinau, 29 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- Moldova is determined to resolve the Transnistrian conflict exclusively by peaceful means, a position also supported by our colleagues of Kiev. Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian and Ambassador-at-large of Ukraine responsible for Transnistrian file Paun Rohovei made the statement today in Chisinau.
At a briefing, Serebrian said that the situation of the Transnistrian file was evaluated today.
"The situation is complicated and constantly changing. I also referred to the stagnation of the negotiation process between Chisinau and Tiraspol recorded last year. We talked about the challenges we are facing in Tiraspol, the situation at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border on the Transnistrian section. Tiraspol is trying to prove that Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova are planning an action against the region. I assure you that there is no plan for a military or other strangulation of the Transnistrian region. The only solution is the full reintegration of the region into the Republic of Moldova. We just want to gradually bring it into the legal field. Any other scenarios cannot be considered. The resolution of the conflict will be done only through peaceful means and dialogue. The ambassador reiterated Ukraine's support for this approach of Chisinau. Ukraine is an essential partner in the regulatory process and we appreciate the support provided on this dimension", he said.
For his part, Paun Rohovei said that Ukraine is in favor of settling this conflict exclusively through diplomatic means, through negotiations.
"Ukraine is and will be a component part of the negotiations for the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. Today we found that the current international format is broken. The main cause is the presence of the state that does not have the moral right to participate in the negotiations. A state that attacked Ukraine in 2022 and continues to cause death on the territory of this country. We will support Chisinau's initiatives aimed at the reintegration of the country. Ukraine is counting on the peaceful settlement of this conflict and will be prompt when some provocations are attempted by those on the left of the Dniester, those who control situation or some representatives of the special services", he said.
The two officials also discussed the socio-economic achievements last year. The parties count on "a constructive dialogue to achieve more successes in the reintegration of the country".
