National Food Safety Agency of Moldova informs about new cases of bird flu

Chisinau, 29 January /MOLDPRES/ - The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) today informed about the epizootic situation in Moldova and in the region, which shows more hotbeds of bird flu.
According to ANSA, during 19 January – 26 January, five hotbeds of bird flu were registered (one hotbed in the Edinet district, Tarnova village, two hotbeds in the Glodeni district, Danu commune, and two hotbeds in the Rezina district, Mateuti and Papauti villages).
„Also on this period, a rabies hotbed was recorded in cat in the Floresti district, Ghindesti town. The corpse of the animal hit by this disease was destroyed, according to the procedures and actions of control and eradication of the disease hotbed were undertaken,’’ ANSA said.
„The Emergency Anti-epizootic Commission was urgently summoned and it approved a plan of measures for the combating and eradication of the hotbed of bird flu, according to the provisions of the Government Decision for the approval of the sanitary and veterinary norm on the measures of supervision, control and combating of the bird flu, on the contingency plan on the control of the bird flu. As a result, a protection area of 3 km and a supervision zone of 10 km were established,’’ the quoted source said.
The National Food Safety Agency urges the owners and breeders of birds to keep them inside yards and upon noticing clinical symptoms, immediately inform the veterinary staff.
