Chisinau, Jan 30. /MOLDPRES/- Canada supports the Republic of Moldova and implements a two million dollar - program to back National Police. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Mélanie Joly made the statement in Chisinau during a joint briefing with Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Mihai Popșoi.

The two officials said that Canada has been and will remain a reliable partner of our country, including the European integration process.

"I want to thank the Canadian Government for the support, the robust sanctions mechanism, to leave no room for impunity for those who harmed the citizens of Moldova. We want to be able to export more products to Canada, so that our Canadian friends can enjoy the good products we have", Popsoi said.

Joly assured that our country can rely on Canada's support in all areas, including defense. She congratulated Chisinau for the European Union's decision to open negotiations with the Republic of Moldova.

"Canada backs Moldova. Your country has gone through important changes and we are ready to support your democratic and European path. I would like to congratulate you on the European Union's decision to open negotiations. I want to tell you that we have sanctioned six TV channels and a number of individuals who help promote Russian disinformation. We must work, including in the field of military cooperation. We can reach an agreement on social security. I am sure that in the coming weeks we will be able to announce such an agreement", said Joly.

Mélanie Joly pays a working visit to our country on January 29-30.
