Chisinau, Jan 30. /MOLDPRES/- We took the first step for the construction of Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau-Odessa highway - Moldova's corridor to the European Union. Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu made the statement today after signing a cooperation agreement with the European Investment Bank through which the World Road Association (PIARC) finances the pre-feasibility and feasibility study of the highway construction project.

According to the official, the pre-feasibility study will be completed in 2024, and the feasibility study will be completed by the end of 2025. These documents provide for the collection of information and data regarding the current situation of the road infrastructure, the intensity of the planned traffic, the economic evaluation. The construction of the highway is a project of national importance. The Ungheni - Chisinau - Odesa highway will connect the regional economic and industrial centers of the three countries, facilitate trade, economic and social development, and Moldova will be closer to the EU.

"We all want this project to be completed in the shortest possible time and construction to start as soon as possible. At the same time, we must be aware that such projects take time. Unfortunately, a lot of time was lost. These studies should have been done many years ago. We are recovering now. We will move as quickly as possible to go through other stages in the coming years: design, identification of financial resources, bidding and initiation of the works", Andrei Spînu said.

The highway construction is one of the national projects of the 5+ Moldova Infrastructure Reconstruction Plan.
