First-ever operation carried out in field of otorhinolaryngology in Moldova

Chisinau, 30 January /MOLDPRES/ - Representatives of the department of otorhinolaryngology of the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF), along with a team of physicians from Kiev have carried out an operation of removing the acoustic neurinoma through translabirynthine approach in a patient aged 43 years.   

The intervention is a first ever event for the medical system of Moldova and took place at the Timofei Mosneaga Republican Clinical Hospital from Chisinau. The operation was made by professor Oleg Borysenko from the A. I. Kolomyichenko Institute of Otorhinolaryngology  and  Vladimir Fedirko  of the Romodanov Institute of Neurosurgery, physician neurosurgeon Serghei Borodin, an ORL physician surgeon, Marin Buracovschi, and Anastasia Ursachi – students training for doctor’s degree at the Doctoral School in the field of Medical Sciences, assisted by other colleagues or resident physicians.    

Professor Oleg Borysenko said that he had an experience of over 30 years in carrying out operations through translabirynthine approach, which is a more inoffensive technique, less traumatic for the patient. ‘’In the world, such interventions have been carried out for a long time, but for us, first the endowment of hospitals with medical equipment and the training of medical staff to this end was necessary. Presently, we try to approach tumours from another perspective and through the light of the new equipment. We are interested in young physicians to learn this technique as well,’’ the expert stressed.
