Green Area to be Developed in Taraclia under Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme

Sofia, 7 feb. /BTA/. The park in the northern part of the city of Taraclia will be reconstructed under the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin programme. The area will be further greened, and outdoor equipment, such as benches and swings, waste containers, sport facilities and CCTV cameras will be installed. There will also be bicycle parking and chargers for mobile devices.

The park area will be developed under a project implemented by the Taraclia district council in partnership with the Bulgarian Municipality of General Toshevo, the Romanian Municipality of Murfatlar, and the Municipal Council of Bolhrad in Ukraine. The total cost of the project is EUR 313,117, the head of Taraclia’s economic and investment development department, Irina Nikiforova told BTA.

In her words, the aim of the project is to revitalize and rehabilitate degraded and unused land and surfaces in the northern part of the city of Taraclia, around the university and post office.

"The objectives of the project include restoring 1.7 hectares of degraded land and turning it into an urban green area, that is, a public park, thereby increasing the green space area for the city's residents, especially for those having limited access or living in a remote area from the city centre," Nikoforova said.

She added that the project implementation period is 30 months, and the project monitoring will continue for five years from the project completion date.

The priorities of the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin programme include strengthening the protection and conservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure, including in urban areas, and curbing littering.
