Writer Mircea Cărtărescu awarded Order of Honor

Chisinau, February 15 /MOLDPRES/- On National Reading Day, President Maia Sandu said she had the privilege and honor to receive as a guest Mircea Cărtărescu, one of the most beloved Romanian writers of modern times. The author is translated into more than 20 languages of the world, read, valued and admired on all continents, the presidential press service has reported.
"Mr. Cărtărescu is a true ambassador of Romanian culture. We are glad that he chose to come to Chisinau for the first time, together with his wife, the writer Ioana Nicolaie, on this symbolic day - poet Grigore Vieru's birthday," said the head of state.
The president said that the Order of Honor offered to the writer is a modest form of gratitude for the extraordinary literary talent, for the support and friendship he has for the writers of the Republic of Moldova, for the careful eye with which he follows the realities of our country and for the sincere involvement in promoting the European aspirations of Moldova.
"Mircea Cărtărescu is loved in the Republic of Moldova", the president said.
