Chişinău, Feb. 15 /MOLDPRES/- Today, when 35 years have passed since the end of the war in Afghanistan, a war in which more than 12 thousand Moldovans were conscripted, of which 301 did not return home alive, and another 700 returned wounded, President Maia Sandu came up with a message commemorating those who fell on the battlefield, the presidential press service has reported.
"We remember our countrymen who lost their lives in the war in Afghanistan and we pray with their grieving families and veterans for peace and that no one will ever have to go through the horrors of war again. Unfortunately, even today, while we are commemorating the Moldovans killed in Afghanistan, whole villages are being destroyed in Ukraine and peaceful people, including children, are being killed," the head of state said.
Maia Sandu also said that in these dangerous times, the authorities are doing everything to maintain peace in our country. "The Republic of Moldova is against war, we are a country with people who value peace and freedom", the head of state said.
