Chisinau, 15 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime minister Dorin Recean, on a working visit to the central Nisporeni town, today laid flowers at the monument to the heroes who died in the Afghanistan War, the government’s communication department reported.
The PM said that, 35 years ago, the Soviet Army had been retreating from Afghanistan, a place where more than 12,000 young Moldovans from all regions of the country were sent to fight in an unjust war. A number of 301 of them did not return and another 700 were seriously injured.
„They honourably fulfilled the mission of war thousands of kilometers far from home, which marked their lives for good. On this day, with an unjust war of Russia against Ukraine, at the borders of our country, we should remember again the damages caused by the military conflicts and how important peace is, which provides us stability and prosperity,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.
Events dedicated to the day of commemoration of those who died in the Afghanistan War are held all over the country. In Chisinau, flowers were laid at the Monument to Stephen the Great and at the Complex, Holy Memory to Sons of the Motherland.
