Chisinau, 16 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Cobusca Veche commune from the central Anenii Noi district on 15 February hosted a special visit by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), marking the success of a community development project finished in 2022. It is about an ample package of technical assistance and financial support for the implementation of a project on the extension of the water supply network.
„Cobusca Veche, in its capacity of partner of the USAID My Community programme, benefited from a crucial project, taking into account the challenges faced by the community in this sector during more years. Among them, there is the limited access to water for residents, frequent interruptions in the supply with water and the latter’s bad quality – all these problems are caused by the obsolete infrastructure and the worn-out equipment. With the USAID’s financial support of about 73,000 dollars, the local public authority managed to carry out a project which is both important and far-reaching. Presently, two newly set water towers contribute to the supply with water of the entire community,’’ USAID said.
Also, within the project, three modern water pumping stations, according to EU’s standards, were constructed, which were connected to an autonomous power network, in order to guarantee the sustainability of the service.
„The interconnection of all water towers from the commune led to a more efficient use of the developed infrastructure, as well as enhanced its sustainability. The result is a significant impact on the community’s life through tangible benefits brought to those over 2,200 residents of the commune. At present, the project with an overall value of 108,417 dollars continues to serve the community, ensuring both a living of higher quality for the commune’s residents and significant revenues in the local budget. This success marks a concrete example of the tangible and sustainable changes in the people’s lives, achieved through the partnership between the communities from Moldova and USAID,’’ the quoted source said.
My Community is a programme of eight years (2018-2026), financed by USAID and implemented by the IREX international organization, in order to strengthen the local governance and provide technical assistance to local public authorities of Moldova, so as to ensure efficient, transparent governance, which is responsible before the citizens. For the moment, the programme cooperates with 123 mayoralties of Moldova. Since 2018, the programme has provided support to over 90 communities and 1.47 million citizens. The overall value of the USAID investments within the My Community programme will amount to 35.5 million dollars in those 8 years of implementation.
