Moldova's grapes exported to 33 countries, with new record set in 2023

Chisinau, 19 February /MOLDPRES/ - The export of table grapes in 2023 registered a significant increase against the year before. The producers managed to increase the quantity of grapes exported by about 11 per cent and the value - by about 33 per cent. The Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA) today unveiled figures to this effect.
Thus, 84.55 thousand tons of grapes with an overall value of 75.67 million dollars (average price per one kg is 0.9 dollars) were exported, according to data by the Customs Service.
The geography of the exports extended considerably in 2023, with deliveries made to 33 countries, as compared to 23 countries in 2022. Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia, Italy, Lithuania the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Kyrgyzstan, Albania are among the new destinations.
According to the decision by the European Parliament, the Moldovan grapes’ exporters can access the EU market without tariff and quantitative restrictions. Yet, this opportunity implies an enhanced responsibility, and it is essential that producers get involved in an efficient planning and coordination, in order to make sure that their grapes meet the strict quality and safety requirements imposed by the European market.
