Moldovan central electoral commission says electoral period for 19 May new, partial elections starts today

Chisinau, 19 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has informed that the electoral period for the new and partial local elections due on 19 May 2024 started today.
According to CEC, the main actions on the election period envisage the creation and organization of the work of the lower electoral bodies, registration of initiative groups and of the candidates for the office of mayor and local councilor, setting up and organization of polling stations, updating and publication of electoral lists, informing the voters and training the electoral civil servants, monitoring of the elections and their coverage in the mass media, organization of the voting and tabulation of the ballot’s results. The electoral period will end with the confirmation of the polls’ results and validation of the mandates of mayor and councilor in local councils.
On 19 May 2024, new local elections will be held for a new composition of the local councils in the settlements Cairaclia, Taraclia district, Choselia Rusa and Cotovscoe from the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, as well as for the election of the mayor of the Tirnova commune, Donduseni district, Bucovat town, Straseni district, Sagaidac village, Cimislia district and the Hanasenii Noi commune, Leova district.
Partial elections will be held in the Cealic commune, Taraclia district, for a new composition of the local council, as well as for the mayor in the settlements Chioselia Rusa and Cotovscoe from UTA Gagauzia.
