Moldovan National Army's UNIFIL-2 contingent, detached to Lebanon, starts mission

Chisinau, 20 February /MOLDPRES/ - The servicemen of the UNIFIL-2 contingent of the National Army, detached to the mission of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), has started its mission.
According to the Defence Ministry, at the transfer of authority ceremony, held at the multinational base, Sector West HQ UNP 2-3, from the Shama settlement, the Moldovan military took over the duties of the Armenian peacekeepers, who were members of the Italian contingent.
In the presence of the chiefs of the Sector West, as well as military from Italy, Armenia and Moldova, the commandant of UNIFIL-2, Maxim Dmitriev, took over the UN flag and the duties of the office.
Those 33 Moldovan peacekeepers from the UNIFIL-2 contingent, among whom three women, left for the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon in the end of the last week.
In Lebanon, the Moldovan peacekeepers will fulfill missions of security and guard of military objects and of patrol of the responsibility area, working at the Italian contingent.
The first contingent of Moldovan peacekeepers left for the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon in February 2023, where they worked during six months.
