Moldovan cabinet approves new amendments to Labour Code

Chisinau, 21 February /MOLDPRES/ - The children will be more protected from the exploitation through work and the employees will be able to benefit from a new type of social leave. The cabinet approved a string of amendments to the Labour Code and the Contravention Code, the government’s communication department has reported.     

Under the draft, upon turning the age of 15 years, people will be able to be employed only to carry out light work, which does not hit their security, health and  development. To combat children’s exploitation through labour and enhance the level of their protection, the draft establishes contravention sanctions.    

Also, the document comes with improvements of the process of organization of labour in shifts and provides more opportunities of employment of pregnant women, of those who have recently given birth and of those who suckle.   

Another provision deals with the introduction of the unpaid leave, with duration of five working days in one calendar year, for taking care of a person who lives with the employee and who needs support, given health problems.   

The draft is to be submitted to parliament for approval.
