Moldovan government extends by one year term of providing temporary protection to people displaced from Ukraine

Chisinau, 28 February /MOLDPRES/ - The term of providing temporary protection to displaced people from Ukraine will be prolonged by one year, starting from 1 March 2024 till 1 March 2025. Automatically, the identity document of the beneficiary of temporary protection will be extended. The cabinet approved a decision to this effect, in order to provide stability and safety to the Ukrainians who had taken refuge to Moldova, the government’s communication department has reported.
The draft is meant to provide social assistance to the beneficiaries of temporary protection and financial support, depending on the criteria of vulnerability established. At the same time, the people due to benefit from temporary protection will have right to work in Moldova, without getting the right of temporary stay on purpose of work.
The application on the providing of temporary protection can be submitted till 1 March 2024 by those who are in the country, as well as by the people who will arrive in Moldova after this date till 1 March 2025.
Presently, over 116,000 displaced people from Ukraine are in Moldova. Almost 39,000 people were pre-registered for getting temporary protection and over 30,000 people have already obtained identity acts.
