Chisinau, March 6. /MOLDPRES/- Starting from 2025, a new European model of the identity card will be introduced in the Republic of Moldova, which will gradually replace the previously issued IDs. Thus, the citizens of our country will have an Identity Card, and foreign citizens, stateless persons, refugees and beneficiaries of humanitarian protection - the Residence Card.
The new documents, which will be issued from March 31, 2025 will include printed information and biometric data. This will allow expanding the list of European Union member countries where Moldovan citizens will be able to travel based on their identity card. Also, the new act will facilitate the digital interaction of people with public institutions and access to banking, fiscal, social and educational services.
The identity card will no longer include information on domicile and temporary residence, to prevent the need to change the document frequently. The new identity cards will no longer have an accompanying card, and on the day of voting, the information will be entered in electronic format, without the application of a stamp. Moreover, citizens will be obliged to hold the identity card from the age of 14, and not from the current age of 16, in order to expand access to social services offered to holders.
The draft law, approved by the Government, is to be presented to the Parliament for examination and approval.
