Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean unveiled the government’s activity report for the 2023 year in parliament today.
The official said that, in 2023, the government had worked on four important directions: economic development and enhancement of the welfare, peace and security, anticorruption and justice reform, European integration.
„The accession to EU helps us have more financial resources and invest in the people’s well-being and the business environment to have access to the biggest and the richest market of the world and through this, to open jobs, provide higher salaries to Moldova’s citizens. What happens in Moldova at present, the fact that for several years, the government has been edifying European living conditions – and we will continue to edify all over the country – is due to the fact that we maintain the peace at home and the European Union member states and other friends help us,’’ Dorin Recean said.
The PM noted that, last year, Moldova’s economy had recovered following the consequences of multiple crises of the 2022 year, caused by Russia’s war against Ukraine. ‘’We ended the year with economic growth and with a diminished inflation of 4.2 per cent. Before all challenges, our foreign friends continued to back us. The European Union is the principal commercial partner of Moldova, two thirds of the exports go to the European market and in 2023 we managed record exports of sweet cherries, table grapes and plums. The exports of services registered also a 12-per cent increase, especially in the fields of telecommunications, information, transport and constructions,’’ Dorin Recean said.
The prime minister also said that the policy in the employment sector had been focused on the promotion of the employment of young people, persons with disabilities and jobless people and the increase in investments in programmes on residents’ employment. ‘’The minimal salary on the country increased by 12.5 per cent in 2023 and by another 25 per cent in 2024, reaching 5,000 lei, which doubled in the last two years. In the 2023 year, the state monthly allocation was increased by 250 lei for about 37,000 people – war veterans, participants in the Chernobyl accident relief works, rehabilitated victims of political repressions, as well as for the members of their families. The one-off child-birth allowance was increased from 10,932 lei to 20,000 lei. The Restart social assistance system was reformed, which is set to improve the governance and the transparency in the social assistance system and to ensure the uniform and fair access of the vulnerable residents to payments and quality social services,’’ Dorin Recean said.
