Moldovan parliament speaker participates in Conference of Parliament Speakers of EU Strategy for the Danube Region

Chisinau, 18 March /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu participates in the Conference of Parliament Speakers of the member states of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region. The meeting will take place in Vienna on 18-20 March and will be hosted by the Parliament of Austria, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The discussions held by the parliament speakers will be fit in three panels: security in the Danube region; education for democracy; the Danube region as a cultural, natural and scientific area. A joint declaration will be adopted in the end of the discussions.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu will have meetings with his counterparts from Austria, Ukraine, Hungary and Slovenia. Traditionally, Igor Grosu will meet Moldovans who live, study or work in Austria.
The parliamentary delegation due to accompany the parliament speaker at the conference is made up of the head of the commission for social protection, health and family, head of the group of friendship with Austria Adrian Belii; the head of the commission for culture, education, research, youth, sport and mass media, Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei; the deputy head of the commission for foreign policy and European integration, Ion Groza.
The European Union Strategy for the Danube Region regards the development of the economic potential and the improvement of the environmental conditions of the region. At the same time, the Strategy encourages the long-term cooperation, both between the local and regional authorities, private environment and NGOs, through the generation of projects for the region’s development. Fourteen countries signed the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.
