About 400 farmers ask for financial assistance in Moldova

Chisinau, 19 March /MOLDPRES/ - The process of reception of applications for financial support submitted by the farmed hit by the natural calamities from 2023 has ended. A number of 372 applications were registered as a result.
According to the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA), 363 out of all applications are for the compensation of the damage caused by the drought from 2023 to the maize crop and another nine applications were submitted for the compensation of the damage inflicted by the storm from 25 July 2023 to fixed means (fruit trees’ plantations and greenhouses) from the northern Edinet district.
„Most applications for financial assistance were submitted by farmers from the districts of Cahul – 132 applications, Cantemir – 93 applications, Stefan Voda – 43 applications, Vulcanesti – 29 applications, Taraclia – 19 applications, Leova – 19 applications. The money will be provided as direct payment per one hectare,’’ MAIA said.
The government allocated 50 million lei from the intervention fund, in order to back the farmers hit, especially for damages caused by the 2023 drought to the maize crop and the storm from 25 July 2023 to fixed means (fruit trees’ plantations and greenhouses) from the Edinet district. The process of reception of applications took place during 15 February – 15 March 2024. In continuation, decision-makers are to consider the applications submitted.
