Moldovan government increases education scholarships for pupils, students

Chisinau, 20 March /MOLDPRES/ - The merit scholarships for pupils and students will be doubled, along with the monthly payments from which the young people who study in the education institutions with military specialization benefit. At the same time, the government will increase by 5.5 per cent the quantum of the monthly scholarships for the pupils from colleges, students training for master’s degree and the ones studying for doctor’s degree. To this end, about 48 million lei was additionally allocated from the state budget. The decision on the increase in scholarships was approved by the cabinet today.     

Minister Dan Perciun said that the increase in the scholarships of the pupils and students fit into the policy promoted by the Education and Research Ministry (MEC) on the strengthening of the education system at all levels, as well as of ensuring the attractiveness and competitiveness of the higher and vocational education institutions from Moldova at the national and international levels.   

According to the new provisions, as of 1 January, certain categories of scholarships will be twice higher. Thus, the Scholarship of the Republic will be 4,060 lei (against 2,040 lei earlier); the value of the Scholarship of Moldova’s President will be of 2,860 lei for the pupils of the vocational education institutions and 3,690 lei for students; the Scholarship of the Government will amount to 3,380 lei and the Gaudeamus Scholarship – 2,460 lei. Also, the monthly pays for pupils and students of the education institutions from the military sector and public order were doubled; they are to stand at 400 lei and, respectively, 500 lei.     

The scholarship of the pupils from the vocational schools will vary between 745 and 970 lei and the social scholarship for them will amount to 570 lei.    

As for the degree students, their scholarship will be between 970 and 1,235 lei and the students training for the master’s degree will get scholarships worth 1,325 lei. The social scholarship for the students of the cycles I and II will be of 655 lei per month. As for the students studying for doctor’s degree, the Excellence Scholarship of the Government will be 3,165 lei and the scholarship on scientific sectors – 2,640 lei.    

The pupils and students will receive a supplement equal with the difference between the scholarship established according to the new amendments of the decision on the increase of the scholarships and the scholarship paid for the period starting from 1 January 2024 till the date of the entrance into force of the new provisions.     

It is worth mentioning that, in late last year, the government ruled to double the scholarships for the students in Pedagogy – the highest one reaching about 3,500 lei.
