Chisinau, 21 March /MOLDPRES/ - The World Down Syndrome Day is marked on 21 March and President Maia Sandu has conveyed a message on this occasion.
„My hope is for us to reach together the day on which this diagnosis is no longer a sentence. I want us everybody to provide assistance, instead of stereotypes and inclusion instead of separation. Namely therefore, I chose to donate the Timisoara for European Values award to an organization which promotes the inclusion of the children with the Down syndrome,’’ the head of state said.
Also, the Moldovan president urged the citizens to support the My Friend organization, founded by Ludmila Adamciuc, as well as other organizations which back these children.
„We should inspire from the kindness of the children and adults with the Down syndrome and we should support their passions; we should discover their curiosities and help them dream.
I urge the parents to discuss with their own children about friendship and non-discrimination – this is also a way in which we transform our country. I encourage the schools to become more inclusive spaces, where all children have chance to make friendships and where all children have access to knowledge – different, but equal. I urge everybody to choose to become better together,’’ the head of state added.
