Chisinau, 21 March /MOLDPRES/ - „During my visits to villages from the country in 2019, I met many people, including who deal with agriculture, who were telling me that there is no enough water, that the wells, rivers, lakes dry up and the animals do not have where to drink from. Farmers were complaining that they no longer have water for irrigation, without which the agricultural crops do not grow. The concerns of the people are my concerns too. To bring water to our rivers and wells, we must afforest and afforest as much as possible,’’ President Maia Sandu has said in her message conveyed on the International Day of Forests marked on 21 March, the presidential press service reported.
The head of state says that, to increase the area of forests in Moldova, the National Afforestation Programme had been launched and the Agreement on financing for the National Afforestation Programme worth 40 million lei was signed in Paris on 7 March. She stressed that this was the first document bringing money for afforestation and there others would come next.
„ The National Afforestation Programme is carried out through much work and dedication of many people who love the forest, love the nature and love the country. In 2023, we managed to afforest and regenerate over 7,200 hectares of lands from Moldova and each year, we will increase the afforested areas through the contribution of each sylviculturist, each ecologist, each man who comes to plant. Today is the International Day of Forests and on 22 March we mark the World Water Day. We thank the sylviculturists for the work carried out day by day for the protection and extension of forests,’’ President Maia Sandu added.
