Chisinau, March 29 /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean met with UNHCR Representative in Moldova Francesca Bonelli. The official is ending her mission in our country after two years of work.
Recean praised the UN agency's contribution to the development of effective mechanisms for managing the refugee crisis, protection and support for people fleeing the war in Ukraine. According to the Prime Minister, the authorities remain focused on continuing humanitarian programmes, facilitating the employment of refugees in the labour market and supporting the integration of refugee children into the education system.
Francesca Bonelli said that the Republic of Moldova has become an international example through the solidarity shown by the authorities and citizens, and UNHCR will continue to provide the necessary support to turn the presence of more than 128,000 refugees into a development opportunity for our country.
UNHCR significantly expanded its operations in the country in late February 2022, following the arrival of refugees from Ukraine, and cooperated with the government in jointly leading the inter-agency humanitarian response, aligned with the Regional Response Plan (RRP).
