Chisinau, April 5 /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu attended today an event dedicated to the professional holiday of Moldovan rescuers and firefighters, the presidential press service has reported.
"I thank all those who risk their lives so that we can be safe. On Rescuer's Day, we express our gratitude for thousands of interventions, operations and missions, but especially for over 600 lives saved since the beginning of the year," Maia Sandu said.
The President also noted that including today, 10 fire crews intervened to extinguish the strong fire that broke out at a high school in the capital. Rescuers evacuated around 1900 children and school employees, so no casualties were reported.
"We thank your families. We thank your parents, who have raised empathetic people with love for others and a desire to care for others. Thank you!", said the head of state.
On this occasion, Maia Sandu handed out state awards to employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The presidential decree says that the distinctions are awarded for irreproachable performance of duty, as well as for professionalism and spirit of sacrifice in emergency situations.
