International Day of Sport for Development and Peace marked today

Chisinau, April 6 /MOLDPRES/- National Olympic and Sports Committee of the Republic of Moldova marked in a special way the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, celebrated annually on April 6. On this occasion, an Olympic Lesson was organized, attended by more than 30 children from Lucian Blaga Theoretical High School in Chisinau.
The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace was officially proclaimed by the United Nations on 23 August 2013, following an initiative launched by the International Olympic Committee, as permanent observer to the UN.
The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace provides an opportunity to promote sport and physical activity as a universal language and catalyst for social change for development. This celebration is a platform to fight stigma and social discrimination, contributing to gender equality, healthy behaviour and peace building.
On 6 April 2014, for the first time, International Day of Sport for Development and Peace is officially celebrated in our country, as well as in other UN member states.
