Moldovan, European officials discuss current issues

Chisinau, April 9 /MOLDPRES/- Council of Europe will further support Moldova in the implementation of the National Action Plan for EU accession. Speaker Igor Grosu approached the issue at a meeting with Council of Europe's Deputy Secretary General Bjorn Berge, who is on a visit to Moldova, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
The official said that over the years the Council of Europe has supported Moldova in carrying out democratic reforms in justice, media and respect for human rights. "We are fully committed to carrying out the reforms initiated, and the top priority is justice. Even if there is resistance among judges, the process is irreversible and we will not give in," said Grosu.
Another issue was the fight against fake news and propaganda. In this context, he praised the Council of Europe's expertise in strengthening media pluralism. "In the last 3 years, we have made significant efforts to strengthen state institutions such as the Central Electoral Commission, the Audiovisual Council. Step by step, we will work to have strong institutions that can face criminal groups and challenges from outside," he said.
In the context of the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe, Berge will attend the event to hand over a large donation of medical equipment under the project Strengthening prison and probation reforms, provision of health care and treatment of patients in closed institutions.
