Moldova's progress in diversifying energy sources discussed with U.S. officials

Chisinau, April 9 /MOLDPRES/- Moldova's progress in diversifying energy sources and the leap in gas and electricity in recent years were discussed in the US at a meeting between Energy Minister Victor Parlicov and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Eastern Europe, Policy and Regional Affairs Christopher W. Smith.
Victor Parlicov stressed that the Republic of Moldova is advancing in building energy markets and integrating into the European market, describing recent legislative changes.
"The risks for the Republic of Moldova and the impact on the stability of the Transnistrian region of the expiry of the contract for the transit of Russian natural gas through Ukraine were also examined. The parties agreed that it is in the interest of both the Republic of Moldova and the United States to maintain stability in the region and to identify solutions for the peaceful reintegration of the Republic of Moldova," the Energy Ministry said.
Parlicov is on a working visit to Washington D.C. on 8 - 11 April 2024. He has to meet with high-ranking officials of the U.S. administration and representatives of the energy industry.
