Chisinau, April 9 /MOLDPRES/ - Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi met with German diplomacy head Annalena Baerbock. The officials reviewed the bilateral relations between Moldova and Germany and ways to boost them. They also exchanged views on the priorities of the governments, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported.

Popsoi highlighted Moldova's progress towards European integration and thanked Germany for its constant support in this process. "We want the Republic of Moldova to legalize its status as a truly European country. To this end, we are making joint efforts in the reform process, both in the field of justice, the fight against corruption, and in the promotion of human rights and the involvement of women in politics. We want to become a member of the European Union, because this guarantees peace, tranquillity and prosperity for our country. Every citizen knows the importance of this aspiration, whether they speak Romanian or Russian, whether they live in Chisinau, Comrat, Balti or Tiraspol", said Popsoi.

They also discussed security challenges in the region, in particular the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine. Minister Popsoi categorically condemned Russia's aggression and reaffirmed our country's support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, in accordance with the principles of international law.

Popsoi underlined the importance of German investments in the Republic of Moldova, which significantly improve the quality of life of our citizens.

Baerbock said that Moldova's place is in the big European family: "Your place is in Europe. Germany is with you. We will continue this partnership in the future through the Partnership Platform, which will develop from an ad hoc platform into a long-term partnership. This will be essential to support you unconditionally on your European path and in the reform process in the European Union. Moldova's accession is not just a geopolitical necessity or a consequence of Russia's war of aggression. Despite a difficult environment, you have initiated extremely important reforms in the country", said the German minister.

The two officials also welcomed the opening of new air flights by Eurowings in May, as well as the resumption of the Chisinau-Frankfurt flight by Lufthansa. The achievements mark significant steps in strengthening cultural and economic links between Germany and the Republic of Moldova.
