Chisinau, April 10 /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean today urged all citizens to participate in the Population and Housing Census, which was launched on Monday.
"I noticed that overnight we have more experts in the census. They are giving their opinion on the questions. I want to remind everyone that the census is a very important exercise. A lot of work has been done on it, on the organisation, on the questions.
I would like to urge everyone, including politicians who have become experts in the census, to take a responsible attitude, to welcome the census takers and to answer the questions that have been well formulated and that will respond exactly to the needs, so that we can provide the authorities and the business environment with the necessary data", he said.
The Population and Housing Census was launched on Monday 8 April and will run for three months. By 7 July, about 4,000 census takers will go from house to house to collect data on the population and its characteristics, such as age, gender, ethnicity, level of education, occupation, etc., as well as housing and living conditions, such as sewage and water supply, heating, etc.
The census is carried out every ten years and is a nationwide activity providing a complete demographic picture of the country. The data collected from the census will inform the development of national and local public policies needed for the economic and social development of the country.
