Chisinau, April 24 /MOLDPRES/- On 23-24 April, the predominantly south-westerly air circulation will favour the advance of an air mass loaded with dust particles of Saharan origin from northern Africa towards south-eastern Europe. This air mass will be over the Republic of Moldova on Tuesday and the first part of Wednesday, but for the moment there are no air pollutant exceedances, the Environment Agency has reported.
Saharan dust is made up of fine particles of sand and soil that are picked up from the Sahara Desert by strong winds. This dust is transported over long distances, sometimes even reaching Europe. The danger associated with Saharan dust comes mainly from its small particle size.
For the moment, the Chisinau air quality monitoring station does not record any exceedances of air pollutants.
