Moldova marks State Flag Day

Chisinau, April 26 /MOLDPRES/- Moldova is marking today State Flag Day - a major official symbol of the country's sovereignty and independence. On this occasion, starting at 09:00, a festive ceremony will be held in front of the central entrance of the Government. The event will be attended by Head of State Maia Sandu, Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
The State Flag Day was established by the Chisinau Parliament on 23 April 2010. The Tricolour was officially designated the state flag on 27 April 1990 after a long speech in Parliament by Alexandru Mosanu. He spoke about the historical truth, the value of the national colours and the massive support for the Tricolour among citizens. Nearly 290 MPs in the first legislature voted for the Tricolour and the Transnistrian delegation left the chamber. The Tricolour, even before its approval, was already displayed on Soviet buildings at all levels, on the highest poles, on buildings and on people's houses.
On this occasion, cultural and educational activities are organized throughout the country, book exhibitions on the history of the state and the evolution of flags throughout the history of our country, thematic excursions dedicated to the State Flag Day.
The State Flag of the Republic of Moldova is a major official symbol of the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Moldova. The State Flag is a rectangular sail, with the ratio between the height and the length of the sail of 1:2, vertically tripartite, starting from the lance in the colours blue, yellow and red, and having in the middle of the yellow field the image of the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Moldova, whose width constitutes 1/5 of the length of the flag.
