Chisinau, April 27 /MOLDPRES/ - The Republic of Moldova marks today the State Flag Day. President Maia Sandu, Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean attended the festive event at the Government.
In her speech, the head of state spoke about the role of the Tricolour in defining the values of our people - attachment to culture and traditions, love of country and desire for freedom.
Recean said that the flag of the Republic of Moldova represents the essence of the history, identity and European aspirations of our people, reflecting the courage and determination of the people of this country - from the national emancipation movement to the common efforts to build European Moldova.
"Together with the Tricolour we walk firmly into the great European family, because the most powerful symbol of the Flag is the unity and solidarity it inspires among all Moldovans. The flag unites us in our common aspirations for a prosperous future here at home," said Recean.
The Tricolour was designated the state flag on 27 April 1990 by the deputies of the first Parliament. State Flag Day was established by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova on 23 April 2010.
