Interior minister on safety measures approved after airport tragedy

Chisinau, May 3 /MOLDPRES/- After last year's tragedy at the Chisinau International Airport, standard operating procedures were regulated and effective mechanisms for monitoring inadmissible persons on the territory of the country were set up. Interior Minister Adrian Efros made the statement in an exclusive interview with MOLDPRES.
The official noted that to prevent similar incidents in the future, several measures have been taken at Chisinau International Airport.
"Thus, an Action Plan for 2023-2024 was approved, aimed to implement the recommendations of the thematic control commission. These actions included the operationalization of the public order and explosive intervention service, as well as the start of activities for the authorization of the aviation security training centre. In addition, the video monitoring system was expanded and detailed situational plans were developed. In order to strengthen the regulatory framework, standard operating procedures have been regulated and effective mechanisms for surveillance of inadmissible persons on the territory of the country have been set up", said Adrian Efros.
The minister also stressed that staff coverage, continuous recruitment and selection, equipping employees with special equipment, including explosive detection devices have been ensured.
In June 2023, two people - a border policeman and an airport security employee died after being shot by a foreign national who was not allowed to enter the country.
