Chisinau, May 7 /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu promises to do everything possible to prevent Moldova from being drawn into a military conflict, but if the Russian army were to enter the country, she would not accept under any circumstances to be safely evacuated by foreign partners. The head of state made the statement in an interview with Russian journalist Yurii Dudi, who has been listed by the Russian authorities as a "foreign press agent".
"I certainly know how I would do it in such cases. The right decision is to stay in your country. As you are responsible for your people, you are responsible for the safety of your people. That is the only right answer. Otherwise it is not possible... You are the president of the country, you are the one they elected to ensure the safety of the people. The whole world is watching you and you must be in a place to do everything for your people. There can be no other answer here. It is a sincere answer," said Maia Sandu.
Asked whether Moldova would resist in the event of a Russian invasion, the head of state said our country is a neutral one, but the Constitution obliges the authorities "to do everything" to defend the state.
She denied rumours that Ukraine had offered Chisinau support in settling the Transnistrian conflict and said the issue could only be resolved peacefully.
