Moldovan parliament speaker says Moldova's authorities ever more determined in advancement of European integration process

Chisinau, 23 May /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s efforts of advancement in the European integration way will continue, so that, along with Ukraine, it should contribute to the edification of a stronger and more sustainable European Union. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has made statements to this effect at the Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum, held in Bucharest.   

In his speech, the parliament speaker said that the parliament, along with the government and the Presidency were edifying new bridges of friendship with countries which help Moldova succeed in the European integration process. At the same time, with the advancement in this process, the authorities are ever more   determined for the European agenda of reforms. ‘’We hope that we will start the negotiations on accession quite soon and the entire process is, first of all, for our citizens, for the well-being of each man from Moldova, who should live in peace and safety, with an efficient governance, justice, a strong and competitive economy, which is to generate well-paid jobs,’’ Igor Grosu said.       

The parliament speaker referred to the latest developments in the implementation of the modernization agenda. Inter alia, he mentioned the signing of the Security and Defence Partnership and the Agreement on Moldova’s participation in the employment and social innovation programme of the European Social Fund, which will facilitate the accessing by the country of funds for the implementation of social policies. ‘’Discussing about the European Union’s enlargement in the terms from before February 2022 is no longer possible. We set a speed and we will keep it, but obviously not to the detriment of the quality,’’ the parliament speaker stressed.     

Igor Grosu also said that Moldova and Ukraine would move together to the European Union, would act with a single voice and would learn from the friendly countries the good practices and the lessons of the accession.    

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, along with Romanian Senate President Nicolae Ciuca and Chairman of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, were the main speakers at the panel on the European integration of Moldova and Ukraine in the present European context.  

The eighth edition of the Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum will take place in Bucharest on 23-24 May. This is an international security conference, which brings together guests with rich professional experience from different countries, in order to discuss the risks, threats and vulnerabilities in the Black Sea and Balkans regions. The event provides a platform for discussions, analyses and exchanges of ideas on the war in Ukraine, its implications for the regional and global security, the process of Ukraine’s reconstruction, the energy security and the Trans-Atlantic relation, the quoted source said. The event is organized by the New Strategy Centre, with the support of the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the National Defence Ministry of Romania.
