Moldovan PM says safer, more stable future for all people of Black Sea region can be edified only through cooperation, mutual support

Chisinau, 23 May /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean today participated, in online format, in the eighth edition of the Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum. The event is held in Bucharest on 23-24 May.    

In his speech, the PM referred to the regional situation triggered by Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and emphasized the courage and resistance proved by the neighbour country, in order to maintain the situation in the region stable.  

In the context, the prime minister stressed the importance of backing Ukraine in this fight. ‘’Our continuous support is essential. The Black Sea’s security is the basis of the stability of the entire Euro-Atlantic zone and Ukraine’s fight is not only about its own sovereignty, but also about the maintaining of the security architecture of Europe,’’ the Moldovan PM said.

„We can edify a safer and more stable future for all people from the Black Sea region only through cooperation, sharing of knowledge and by helping each other,’’ Dorin Recean said.  

The prime minister mentioned the hybrid challenges faced by Moldova – cyber attacks, propaganda, misinformation – and the actions undertaken by the  authorities to reduce their proportions. Thus, the current authorities are focused on enhancing the resilience of the institutions, defence capacities, developing the economy and getting the energy independence.   

In the context, the prime minister noted the signing of the Security and Defence Partnership at the eighth meeting of the Moldova-European Union Association Council. This will help counteract Russia’s attempts to intervene in the domestic democratic processes.    

The Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum is an international security conference, in regional format, which brings together participants with a rich professional experience, from various states. The main subjects of this edition regard the security in the Black Sea region, including the energy one, the cyber resilience, hybrid threats and fighting the misinformation.
