Chisinau, 30 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau International Airport (AIC) today hosted, for the first time ever, an event regarded as the most important one in the aviation sector – Aviation-Event 2024 RMO, titled Perspectives and challenges of Moldova’s Aviation on its Path to the European Union.

„I hope that this event will become a tradition for the national aviation sector. Moldova is known as a small country with a great heart; I can say this also about the Chisinau International Airport – this is a small airport with a big potential,’’  Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu has said in his speech. The official urged the participants ‘’to enjoy this unique event for Moldova, through which they have occasion to know the aviation industry from our country, as well as the people whose hospitability is famous all over the world.’’

After returning to the state management, the Chisinau International Airport registered more progress in the infrastructure’s rehabilitation. It is about the restoration of the main runway, purchasing of new equipment for its maintenance. Also, a car park with 260 places is to be constructed and work will be carried out on the modernization of the network of supply with electric energy.

A novelty at the conference was the announcement of Minister Spinu about the elaboration of the feasibility study, with the support of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, for the building of a new terminal at the Chisinau International Airport. Following a preliminary analysis, the minister says that this terminal will have a capacity to receive over 5 million passengers annually. The finishing of the feasibility study is scheduled for the end of this year.

Referring to the future of Moldova’s aviation sector, Andrei Spinu stressed that the latter was at the beginning of its way, which is an advantage. ‘’Our goal is to modernize the infrastructure, to launch direct flights at accessible prices for our citizens from Moldova and of the Diaspora, as well as to adjust the national legislation to the European one,’’ Andrei Spinu noted.

The Aviation Event conference brought together professionals at the international level, world leaders of the aviation industry, experts, journalists from all regions of the world, directors of air companies and airports from Europe.
