Moldovans working in Spain can ask for old age pensions, disability pensions, other social guarantees as of 1 June 2024

Chisinau, 1 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovans who work or have worked in Spain starting from today can ask for old age pensions, disability pensions and other social guarantees. This is possible, after the Agreement between Moldova and Spain in the social security sector and the Arrangement on its implementation, signed in Madrid on 21 July 2022, entered into force today, 1 June.       

The beneficiaries of this agreement will have right to ask for old age pensions,  pensions of disability caused by general diseases, pensions and allowances of disability in the wake of labour accidents or caused by professional diseases, as well as survivor pensions.   

Under the agreement’s provisions, the periods of insurance carried out on the territory of both states will be totalized when establishing the right to pension. Each contracting state will calculate and pay the part of pension fitting the period of work on its territory. These sums will be transferred to the beneficiary in the state of residence.      

To benefit from pensions and other social benefits provided for in the agreement, the people eligible will have to submit an application to the National Social Insurances House (CNAS) from Moldova or to the competent institution from the other contracting state. 

According to official data, about 22,000 citizens of Moldova live in Spain at present.   

Moldova has concluded social security agreements with 18 countries, of which 17 are already in force. Among them, there are: Romania, Portugal, Bulgaria, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Austria,  Estonia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Belgium, Lithuania, Germany, Turkey, Belarus, Greece, Italy sand now Spain.
