Moldovan foreign affairs minister to pay working visits to Poland, Slovakia, Austria

Chisinau, 14 June /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi on 17-20 June will pay three working visits to Warsaw, Poland, Bratislava, Slovakia, and Vienna, Austria.    

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE), on 17 June, on his visit to Warsaw, Deputy PM Mihai Popsoi will meet his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski. The two officials will hold a news conference at 10:00, Warsaw time. Also, Minister Popsoi will have meetings with the director of the Solidarity Fund state foundation of Poland, Marcin Pręgowski, Under-secretary of State and the head of the international policy bureau of the President’s Chancellery, Mieszko Pawlak.     

The priority subjects of discussions will include the support provided by Poland in the implementation of the key reforms and the aligning with the European democratic standards and values, boosting the bilateral and multilateral dialogue, deepening the economic cooperation, as well as the cooperation in the university and cultural sector.  

On 19 June, Minister Popsoi will make a working visit to Slovakia, where he will have a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister Juraj Blanár. The officials will give a joint news conference at 13:30, Bratislava time. At the visit, the Moldovan diplomacy head will meet also Slovakian Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák, who is currently holding the office of acting prime minister.

At the meeting, the Moldovan official also has planned meetings with the deputy president of the National Council of Slovakia, Peter Žiga and the head of the parliamentary committee on foreign policy, Marián Kéry.    

In Bratislava, the Moldovan foreign affairs minister will tackle a string of subjects on the Moldovan-Slovakian bilateral relations, the regional and multilateral dialogue and the development of the commercial and economic cooperation in diverse sectors.

On 20 June, Deputy PM Mihai Popsoi will pay a working visit to Austria. The visit’s agenda will comprise a string of meetings with high-ranking Austrian officials, among whom Federal Minister for European Integration Affairs Alexander Schallenberg, Federal Minister for EU and Constitution Karoline Edtstadler and the deputy head of the committee on foreign policy of the National Council of Austria, Susanne Furst. ‘’The discussions with the Austrian officials will give a good occasion for deepening the bilateral and multilateral dialogue, discussing the regional situation and boosting the inter-parliamentary dialogue,’’  MAE noted.     

Also, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi will participate in an event titled, European integration path of Moldova: Opportunities and challenges, organized by Moldova’s Embassy in Austria, Diplomatic Academy from Vienna and the Austria Institute for European and Security Policy. At the same time, Minister Popsoi will meet members of the community of Moldovans living in Austria.  

The official’s visit includes also the participation in the Forum of Foreign Affairs Ministers of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region.
