Chisinau, 20 June /MOLDPRES/- Environment Ministry has urgently asked the Environment Agency laboratory to take and examine samples from several areas of the Dniester River, including Tighina (Bender) region. The decision was taken in the context of media reports of alleged discharges of Bender sewage system into Dniester River.
"From preliminary information consulted with state institutions, the Ministry was informed that the damage to the sewage system of Bender city has been removed by the city structures, and the Dniester River is currently considered to be polluted on the sector near Bender municipality," the Environment Ministry said.
To avoid unpleasant situations, the ministry asks people in the adjacent area to avoid bathing in the Dniester and not to water animals in the area downstream of Bender.
The ministry is continuously monitoring the water quality of the Dniester River to protect public health and environment.
