Chisinau, July 2 /MOLDPRES/- Economic operators are encouraged to donate food to help vulnerable people and reduce food waste. The promulgation decree and the law amending some normative acts were published in the Official Journal and will enter into force on January 1, 2025.
According to the document, it will be possible to donate a number of food products that are safe for human consumption. These are foods that have lost their commercial appearance due to the deterioration of secondary packaging, products that do not meet the manufacturer's specifications regarding variations in color, size or shape, products with labeling errors, as well as in the conditions of an expected surplus of food for a specific holiday season.
Thus, the economic operator who will donate food will benefit from the same tax incentives and deductions as for residues, waste and natural perishability.
There are no statistics on food waste in the Republic of Moldova, but the reports of the State Tax Service for 2022 show that more than 800 economic agents are recording as losses and residues worth more than 1.4 billion lei. At the same time, on average, a resident of the country throws about 76 kilograms of food into the garbage every year.
