Chisinau, July 3 /MOLDPRES/- 1,300 people have pre-registered for the presidential elections and the republican constitutional referendum to be held on October 20. Government spokesman Daniel Voda presented the data today. The deadline for pre-registration on the Central Electoral Commission platform is September 6.

The most active are compatriots from Germany, Romania, Italy, the US and France.

"Citizens entitled to vote who will be abroad on election day are urged to register in advance. The registration process is ongoing. At this stage, more than 1,300 people have already registered this year on inregistrare.cec.md. We would like to remind all those who have relatives, close relatives abroad and who wish to register in advance, they can do it on CEC platform", said Daniel Voda.

As regards postal voting, which applies to our fellow countrymen living in the USA, Canada, Iceland, Finland, Norway and Sweden, pre-registration is mandatory and is an important element to establish who are those who wish to vote by mail and to verify their identity. Pre-registration is also important to establish the estimated number of voters who intend to vote abroad on election day and to help in deciding whether to set up polling stations abroad. "This pre-registration is one of the three criteria that the Central Electoral Commission takes into account when deciding on the number of polling stations to be opened abroad," he said.

Citizens who want to pre-register can do it online, by visiting inregistrare.cec.md or alegator.md, or directly - through an individual or group written request addressed to the CEC by the diplomatic missions or consular offices of our country abroad.

Presidential elections will be held on October 20, 2024. On the same day, the republican constitutional referendum will be held where citizens will answer the question "Do you agree with the amendment of the Constitution in order to join the European Union?".
