Chisinau, July 3 /MOLDPRES/- OSCE Parliamentary Assembly welcomes Moldova's ambitious and unprecedented reform agenda on the European integration, according to Bucharest Declaration adopted today at the annual session of the OSCE PA.
The Assembly also noted the progress made by our country in advancing reforms in key areas such as the fight against corruption, increasing transparency in public governance and improving the business climate.
The OSCE PA recognizes that the Republic of Moldova is facing a war of aggression on the border and a hybrid war inside the country, characterized by attempts to destabilize the internal situation, disinformation and propaganda attacks. The statement also says that our country remains one of the countries most affected by the consequences of the Russian Federation's illegal, unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine, which continues to seriously violate international law and OSCE commitments.
The Assembly encourages the authorities to continue their efforts to make the Republic of Moldova a member of the European Union and to ensure the climate of security and democracy.
At the same time, the OSCE PA expresses deep concern about the deteriorating human rights situation in the Transnistrian region and condemns the acts of intimidation and repression that have taken place.
"The human rights situation in the Transnistrian region, controlled by an unrecognized regime and effectively controlled by the Russian Federation, continues to be alarming, with numerous violations of human rights and freedoms," the document says.
The declaration reveals repressive mechanisms, intimidation and abuses against public officials on the right bank of the Dniester, human rights defenders, political and civic activists, journalists, as well as a series of illegal arrests, deplorable detention conditions, violations of the right to education, freedom of movement and expression, inhuman and degrading treatment, torture, pressure and persecution.
The document also refers to restrictions applied to Romanian-language schools in the region, restricted access and other conditions imposed on farmers who own land in the area, restrictions on the work of public authorities and civil society representatives in the region.
The OSCE PA reaffirms support for the Moldovan authorities in efforts to ensure peace, stability and rule of law throughout the country and calls on the Russian Federation to execute the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights related to the Transnistrian region.
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly took place on June 29 - July 3 in Bucharest, hosted by the Romanian Parliament. Veronica Rosca, Gheorghe Ichim and Fiodor Gagauz were members of the Moldovan delegation.
