Germany provides €15million grant to improve water infrastructure in central region

Chisinau, July 4 /MOLDPRES/- German government is offering a 15 million euro grant to improve the water infrastructure in the central region. Minister Andrei Spînu and director of the Center Regional Development Agency (ADR) Ion Pânzari signed the additional agreements for the grant today at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR).

The funding will be directed to the project - Improvement of water infrastructure in Central Moldova through the KfW Development Bank.

"Water for all is one of our priorities at the ministry. The agreements signed today will help us achieve this goal and complete the implementation of the project which will bring water to the homes of about 75 thousand people in the districts of Straseni and Calarasi", said Spînu.

The project provides for the construction of Chișinău-Strășeni-Călărași main aqueduct; investments in the water network in Strășeni and Călărași; extension of the water supply infrastructure for the localities in the two districts; support measures to develop the capacities of all actors involved in providing water supply services.

The support provided by the German partners for the implementation of the project amounts to 40 million euros, while the total contribution of the Moldovan Government will be five million euros. So far, all financial and project implementation agreements have been signed for phases I, II and III, representing €25 million grant from Germany.

The additional investments of €15 million are earmarked for phase III, of which €13.5 million will be used for infrastructure and €1.5 million - for support measures.

The project is implemented by the Centru Regional Development Agency and is expected to be completed in 2028.
