NATO Summit begins in Washington: Moldova to be represented by delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister

Chisinau, July 9 /MOLDPRES/- NATO summit begins today in Washington, United States. The Republic of Moldova will be represented by a delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi.

Popșoi's visit will be held on July 9-11. He will attend activities within the NATO Summit.

At the invitation of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the Moldovan diplomat will take part in the ceremonies dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the creation of the North Atlantic Alliance and will deliver a speech in the NATO Partnerships forum. Popșoi will also hold meetings with counterparts and officials from NATO member and partner countries.

He will reiterate Moldova's national interest in strengthening the traditional and credible partnership with the North Atlantic Alliance. At the same time, Mihai Popșoi will emphasize "the importance of promoting democratic reforms in the area of national resilience, in the context of a changing international security environment, particularly affected by geopolitical crises in the region and the world".

The Summit program will include three high-level meetings of the North Atlantic Council, including in formats with Ukraine, the European Union and NATO's Indo-Pacific partners, as well as an anniversary event. Several official documents will also be adopted, including the Summit Declaration and NATO-Ukraine Declaration.

At the meeting, leaders will take important decisions on strengthening long-term support to Ukraine. 

In 2024, the Republic of Moldova marks 30 years of partnership with the North Atlantic Alliance and 10 years since the launch of our country's participation in the KFOR peacekeeping operation in Kosovo.
