Constitutional Court declared complaints on postal voting as inadmissible

Chisinau, July 10 /MOLDPRES/- Constitutional Court today declared as inadmissible the complaints for constitutional review of the law on the partial implementation of postal voting.

The complaint was filed by a group of MPs: Vasile Bolea, Marina Tauber, Denis Ulanov, Vadim Fotescu, Petru Jardan, Reghina Apostolova, Alexandr Suhodolski, Alexandr Nesterovschi and Irina Lozovan, Vladimir Voronin, Vlad Batrîncea.

"As regards the criticisms concerning the failure to comply with the legislative procedure, the Court observes that the authors of the complaints have not justified the contradictory nature of the legal provisions with the constitutional provisions. Therefore, the Court finds that the petitions are inadmissible and cannot be accepted for examination," the document reads.

The decision is final, cannot be appealed, enters into force upon the adoption and is published in the Official Journal.

Moldova will implement postal voting this fall. The MPs adopted a draft law in April. Moldovans in the USA, Canada, Iceland, Finland, Norway and Sweden will be able to vote by post in the presidential elections and the constitutional referendum on Moldova's EU membership. In order to vote by post, citizens will have to register and receive a notification from the Central Electoral Commission that the registration procedure has been completed. The ballot papers will also be sent to voters by diplomatic post or regular postal services.
