Chisinau, July 17 /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Dorin Recean today appealed to citizens in the context of the red code of heatwave. The official urged people to consume water rationally and to be vigilant and responsible as the risk of fires increases in high temperatures and low humidity.
"We are still feeling the heatwave. Thanks to the intervention teams from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, as well as other colleagues who ensure public order, the emergency intervention teams who intervene promptly. We have partly good news: the temperature will drop, but there will be no precipitation, unfortunately. I would ask all citizens to continue to be very careful, disciplined, not to set fire by accident or on purpose to pastures, stubble, to be careful of basic rules, not to throw cigarette butts. So please let's mobilize with the whole society, let's be careful, let's encourage others around us, let's take care of children. We already have over 120 hectares of vegetation destroyed by fires. We have more problems to solve now", said Recean.
At the same time, he urged citizens to consume water rationally. "I am asking Environment Minister Sergiu Lazarencu to continuously monitor the situation and I think that we will also have to make a greater effort to clean the lakes because some of them have dried up as they are not properly taken care of," Recean said.
The Prime Minister added that this afternoon he will go with Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea to the south of the country to see the damage caused by the extreme temperatures and to help farmers, especially grain producers.
Moldova is under a red code of heatwave until today. According to meteorologists, the heat wave will gradually recede over the next few days and temperatures will drop.
