Moldova's team of firemen detached to Greece intervenes to extinguish vegetation fire in mountain settlement

Chisinau, 20 July /MOLDPRES/ - A team of firemen detached to Greece on 19 July intervened, along with Greek colleagues, to extinguish a vegetation fire in the mountain settlement Vila.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), at 13:28, information was received on the breaking out of a fire in the Vila area, 100 km far from the Operation Base, where Moldova’s team is deployed.
The team of IGSU firemen intervened on an area of five hectares, where it worked jointly with Greek authorities in the process of localizing the burning hotbeds and ensured the security of the area hit. The Moldovan rescuers managed to save a turtle from flames.
The fire was liquidated due to joint actions. In all, the flames destroyed 60 hectares of vegetation and bushes and over 90 firemen and 25 vehicles, helicopters and aircrafts were involved in fire-extinguishing actions.
During 16 July – 15 August 2024, a team of firemen for terrestrial fighting of fires of the Interior Ministry’ s IGSU (GFFFv-MD) participates in the prepositioning mission of the European Prepositioning Programme of the Forest Fires Extinguishing Teams in Greece, Nea-Makri region, organized within the EU’s Civil Protection Mission.
