Chisinau, 24 July /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova on the next period will double its efforts for the accession to the European Union and we rely, in continuation, on Romania’s support. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov has made statements to this effect. She participates in the Annual Meeting of the Romanian Diplomacy, held in Bucharest on 24-25 July, MOLDPRES reports, quoted by AGERPRES.
The Moldovan official made these specifications in a press statement held jointly with Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Luminita Odobescu and Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna, on the sidelines of the Annual Meeting of the Romanian Diplomacy.
Deputy PM Cristina Gherasimov expressed confidence that the European Union’s enlargement must be based on the merits of each state candidate.
„We discussed the actions due to be carried out by Moldova. We will double the efforts for the accession to EU and we rely, in continuation, on Romania’s support, with the expertise and experience which we already share with the Moldovan authorities, in order to advance on our European road. We know that the progress will depend, to the greatest extent, on the way we turn to account this historical opportunity and we firmly believe in a process of enlargement based on the merits of each state. We do not want shortcuts and we do not want special conditions. Eventually, we do not carry out the reforms for EU or for the sake of reforms, but given that we committed to edify a well-governed state, with efficient public administration, with an independent and functional justice, with a strong and digital economy. In the context, Romania is with us at each step, in order to assure us that we manage to implement what we were set to do,’’ the Moldovan deputy PM said.
Cristina Gherasimov thanked the Romanian diplomacy for the ‘’constant support’’ provided to Moldova and for the ‘’promotion of the European integration way’’ of the country. The official also highlighted Romania’s contribution to the ‘’historical decision’’ on the starting of the negotiations on the accession of Moldova and Ukraine to EU.
„This is an extra proof that a friend in need is a friend indeed. We enjoyed substantial assistance on behalf of Romania, when it was more difficult for us: beginning with the support on the period of the energy crisis to funds which allowed us implementing projects within the European Village programme. We thank you much for this generous assistance, which is also an unconditional one,’’ Cristina Gherasimov said.
The official noted that Romania’s experience in the process of accession and the possibility ‘’to have direct access to the EU acquis in the Romanian language’’ would be quite useful for Moldova to join EU.
Romania’s Foreign Affairs Ministry on 24-25 July organizes the Annual Meeting of the Romanian Diplomacy. The event is hosted by Foreign Affairs Minister of Romania Luminita Odobescu and brings together the heads of the diplomatic and consular missions of Romania, the directors of the cultural institutions from abroad, along with Romanian high-ranking officials and members of the diplomatic corps accredited by Bucharest.
At this edition, the special guests of Foreign Affairs Minister Luminita Odobescu are: Deputy Prime, Foreign Affairs Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel, Deputy PM for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna and Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov.
